One of the perks of lash extensions is that you look good all the hours of the day. Who knew that feeling like a Disney princess was this easy? But even Disney princesses went all out on some special occasions and you should too. Before you whip out your brushes and your favorite blue eyeshadow, here are some tips to help you maintain the slay and keep your extensions in place.
WHY DO I NEED MAKEUP TIPS?
Your lash extensions will last longer and look just as good depending on how you care for them. Even though they can help you achieve a natural, no-makeup look, you have to remember that they are simply extensions held together by a semi-permanent adhesive and can fall out when handled without proper care. We know you don't want that so here are some tips to guide you.
1. ACHIEVE FULL COVERAGE WITH MINIMUM DAMAGE: APPLYING FOUNDATION OR PRIMER.
Your foundation or face primer is the first and most important step for makeup and it shouldn't be done in a rush. Doing this hastily won't give you that full coverage look and your lash extensions may become casualties of war in the process. Take your time to gently spread out your foundation or primer evenly over your face.
Utilize a beauty blender or a kabuki brush. They help to achieve better application, a more even finish, and don't take up as much space as your hands would. You can easily direct it to avoid contact with your extensions.
2. GET IT RIGHT FROM THE START: APPLYING EYE MAKEUP THE RIGHT WAY.
When applying eye makeup, it is rather easy to ruin your lash extensions in the process so you have to be extra careful here. Try to not touch the actual lashes with either your hands or brushes. Since this cannot be helped, invest in quality brushes. They're more fluid in motion and give you a better application. Now you know why to tread with caution when applying eye makeup, here's how to go about it the right way.
l THE EYESHADOW PRIMER
Primers are meant to create a smooth layer over your eyes for your eyeshadow to stick to. They keep your eyeshadow from creasing, fading, or falling out over your eyelids throughout the day and make your eyeshadows look a lot better.
When applying them, gently brush over your eyelids with a synthetic brush. Tilt your head backward and have the brush pointing downwards to avoid too much contact with the lashes.
Also, make sure the primer is oil-free as oil can wear down the glue in your extensions and cause them to fall off quicker.
l THE EYESHADOW
After successfully applying your eyeshadow primer, the next step would be to apply your eyeshadow on top of it. This can be a little more tricky as the extensions themselves can make it more difficult.
·
INVEST IN A MAGNIFYING MIRROR
Trying to always get the right angle to see and apply your makeup can be quite stressful. So avoid all the trouble by getting a good magnifying mirror. It widens your line of sight and aids better application making sure can go as smoothly and slowly as possible.
· PICK THE RIGHT EYESHADOW
They are so many good eye shadows but not all of them are great for your extensions. The most common ones are powder, crayon, cream, liquid, and pigment eyeshadows. No matter how appealing the rest may look, always go for the powder eyeshadow. It is a lot easier to remove and a lot less damaging to your lash extensions.
Remember to avoid oil-based eye shadows as they dissolve the adhesive and make your lash extensions fall out quicker.
· GET THE RIGHT BRUSH
When applying your eyeshadow with your lash extensions, picking out the right brush is quite important as well. The best brush to use is a tight bristled brush. It allows easier application without fallout.
APPLYING YOUR EYESHADOW
Take a bit of the eyeshadow. Be sure to dust off any excesses by gently tapping your brush over the palette.
Tilt your head backward and brush your eyeshadow from a downward angle.
Blend well from the lids to the brows while avoiding contact with the lashes.
If you're coloring your lids, you would need to tilt your head a bit while stretching your eyelids on the outside. This would flatten the eyelids and make it easier to apply your shadow. Be sure to blend it in gently and slowly.
3. ARE EYELINERS AND MASCARAS SAFE?
Most eyeliners are waterproof and as such would be hard to remove without an oil-based makeup remover. However, some eyeliners are safe to use on lash extensions. Powder eyeliners are the best to use with extensions. If you have more questions, do feel free to ask us.
While eyeliners are a maybe, mascaras are a no. They clamp your lashes together, wear off the glue, and are hard to clean off. A little at the bottom won't hurt anyone though.
TIPS FOR APPLYING EYE MAKEUP WITHOUT RUINING YOUR EXTENSIONS.
· AVOID OIL OR CREAM-BASED PRODUCTS
Oil and cream-based products can cause the adhesive to fall off and the extensions to fall out. They can also clog your pores and slow down your lash growth. Endeavor to get an oil-free makeup remover as well.
· LET GO OF THE WATERPROOF MAKEUP.
Aside from the fact that they take a lot of effort to remove, it is also nearly impossible to remove them without an oil-based makeup remover and oil-based products are bad for your extensions.
· BRUSH THROUGH YOUR EXTENSIONS.
Regularly brush through your extensions with a brush. Do this gently to make sure your extensions fall back in place and avoid overlapping. If your eyeshadow falls on your lash extensions during the application, gently take it out with a lint-free cotton swab soaked in oil-free makeup remover.
